BIOGRAPHY

Valeri Sokolovski is an internationally acclaimed artist, who has exhibited his sculptures and paintings in over a dozen countries in the last five decades. His monuments can be found across eastern Europe and Russia, and his pieces have found homes in museums and private collections in countries including Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Russia and Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Britain, USA, Israel, and Canada. Originally from Odessa, Ukraine, Valeri spent much of his childhood in the mountains of Kazakhstan. Spending time in solitude in those pristine mountains he absorbed the beauty and grandeur of nature that ultimately shaped him. From an early age he was fond of clay modeling, drawing, and painting, reflecting the surrounding beauty. The study of European art, especially the art of ancient Greece and Italy influenced his worldview perception of figurative images of the human body. Physical beauty, harmony of forms, beautiful colors formed in his mind the concept and love of art. Throughout the years music has been an integral part of his soul and has helped him express his thoughts and emotion into his artwork.   Well known as a sculptor – monumentalist Valeri Sokolovski’s established works are ominous in public parks and buildings throughout Europe. His grandiose large scale Soviet inspired monumentalist works, government commissioned, are the essence of teutonic artistic expressions. Impressive statements, his sculptures broadly reflected elements of history and society, memory and myths, culture, and politics. Authoritarian lines, linear shapes and inspirational strength give way to sinuous forms, colour and playfulness. As if a renewed wisdom meant a new narrative expressed in purely graphic and dynamic ways. Away from the limitations of art as a practice for social purposes, his new artistic expression is more ‘accessible’ to the viewer, yet truly contemporary in language, as if in search of a new definition of freedom.

 

Валерий Соколовский – всемирно утверждённый артист. Его скульптурные работы и живопись экспонировались в десятках странах за последние пятьдесят лет и монументы находятся в Восточной Европе и России. Работы Соколовского находятся в Музеях и частных коллекциях Италии, Франции, Японии, Германии, России и Восточной Европы,  а также в Англии, США, Израиле и Канаде. Валерий Соколовский родился 24 сентября 1940 года в Украине. С шестилетнего возраста проживал в Казахстане. Первое художественное образование получил в г. Алма-Ата. С 1963 по 1968 год учился в Одесском художественном училище им. Грекова на скульптурном отделении. По окончании училища работал в Одесском художественном фонде как скульптор-монументалист. Активно учавствовал в местных, всесоюзных и зарубежных художественных выставках и в 1974 году стал членом Союза Художников СССР.  Мемориальные комплексы, вьездные знаки, декоративные парковые композиции , выполненные скульптором  Соколовским, находятся во многих республиках бывшего Советского Союза. Одесской области и городу Одессе также принадлежат его скульптурные композиции: памятник рабочим завода им. Октябрьской революции (ЗОР на Пересыпи), погибшим в годы Великой Отечественой войны, памятник погибшим работникам Селекционного Института Виноградарства и Виноделия им. В. Е.Таирова во время Второй мировой войны, вьездной знак в украинскую Венецию-  г.Вилково, а также мемориальные доски героям Отечественой войны Котовского и Яши Гордиенко на исторических зданиях города Одессы. В 1992 году Валерий вместе с семьёй перезжает в Канаду. Первые два года проживает на самой крайней Восточной точке Канады – остров Ньюфаундленд (NFLD), на берегу Атлантического океана.  Свои первые впечатления на  этом острове  Валерий отразил в скульптурных композициях и представил их на групповой выставке, а затем на персональной выставке в 1993 году под названием “Один год на острове” городе St. John’s, NFLD. Выставка была отражена в Канадских газетах и телевиденье. В 1994 году семья Соколовских переезжает на Западное побережье Канады, город Ванкувер, Британской Колумбии. Творческая жизнь Валерия продолжается с участиями на выставках в Художественных галереях и всевозможных конкурсах на скульптурные композиции для Public Art по Северной Америке. Персональная художественная  выставка под названием “Восхищение Прекрасным” (Beauty’s Fascination) состоялась в Главной галереи города Surrey в 2004 году, где были представлены не только работы в мраморе, дереве, но и его живопись. В 2005 году Валерий стал победителем конкурса на скульптурную композицию “Nature, Wisdom and Knowledge” для Surrey City Hall. В 2006 году победитель конкурса для BC. Museum and Mining. Параллельно Соколовский работает в Ванкуверском филиале индустрии фильмов для Голивуда, как скульптор, создавая скульптурные композиции и образы для таких известных фильмов, как Fantastic Four (Фантастическая Четвёрка), Red Riding Hood (Красная Шапочка), Night at the Museum (Ночь в Музее), the Sixth Day, Underworld, Stargate, и многие другие. Также Валерия скульптура и живопись часто арендовалась для сьёмок в фильмах и  TV сериалах. Скульптура и живопись Валерия Соколовского нашла место в коллекциях поклонников и любителей искусства во многих странах мира. Валерий успел войти в историю скульпторов прошлого столетия Вританской Колумбии наряду с корефеями канадских скульпторов в изданной в 1998 году книге “A Century of Sculpture”.
